Integrity and Truth. Where are they today?
INTEGRITY is a word seldom used these day which is unfortunate. Are you finding that what comes out of people's mouth has very little substance? I am and I deal with the public a lot. These days people just say what seems right at the time with very little committment or intent when the words are spoken. WHAT'S with that????
When did it become of such little value in our spoken words? At what point did it become unimportant to mean what you say and honour your word?
Why do we not respect ourselves and others enough to at least care to the level that they can depend on what comes out of our mouth and know we will back it up with action?
INTEGRITY is about truth, honour and respect combined with humility.
THIS IS WHAT "BUSHIDO" stands for in my world and it is the foundation of what BUSHIDO has to teach and offer. THIS IS WHAT MAKES THE FOLLOWERS OF THE MARTIAL ARTS a valuable contribution to our society, not their ability to break some's nose.
This is one of the many areas of concern and representations the "BLACKBELT' represents at entry level not 4th, 5th, or 6th degree.

Lets Do Something About it. I will if YOU will.
I want to reverse this trend of devaluing OUR life changing institution
It is said that "in order for bad things to succeed all it takes is enough good individuals to do NOTHING".
Are we going to do nothing? Are YOU going to do nothing?
We can not force anyone to do anything they do not want to, but we can make sure there is a choice and a voice pointing and reminding the true way of bushido.
How about this?????
WORLD COALITION of TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ARTS.
A non-profit organization that focuses on setting and encouraging martial artist to follow a standard that ensures indepth study, research and growth and the required time that must be adhered to in order to maintain a venue in which followers can be proud of their achievements and the world in general will recognize.
What a mouth full. This is just one idea. Do you have others????

Black Belts are given out like candy.
When I was a teenager and starting my path in bushido, I looked upon the Blackbelt as the ultimate. It represented all the ultimate to strive for. I dedicated my life and dreams to attaining this golden grail and all it had to offer. And it did represent some very high goals to strive for and grow into. It was not about a collection of techniques. It was much more. One had to change their way of thinking and caring. There was huge responsibilities attached to attaining Black Belt recognition. But it was not over, the "masters" or higher level blackbelts had to continue to grow and search to become exemplary individuals.
WHY INDIVIDUALS ARE BEING GIVEN HIGH RANKS WITHIN ONE YEAR FROM THE LAST, OR TWO OR THREE OR FOUR IS A DISGRACE AND PROVES THOSE DOING SO HAVE LOST THE REAL DEPTH AND MEANING OF THESE LEVELS.
ONE CANNOT ENTER UNIVERSITY, TAKE FIRST YEAR AND BE GIVE THEIR DEGREE A YEAR LATER OR JUMP FROM A B.A. TO A Ph.D A YEAR LATER.

Still Upset. My life work is being made a "Joke"
When will it stop?? Or should I say where will it stop?
Why do we have to destroy anything of real value. By "real value" I mean something that can make a positive difference in our lives and community.
Traditional martial arts teach one to be humble, respectfull and compassionate. Most of all, to control one's ego.
Where is all this emphasis going? Why do we emphasize the opposite and call it martial arts?

Return to Real Martial Arts (Bushido)
My background is over 50 years of martial arts study and instruction and the last 22 fulltime. I started with Judo when it was the only martial art in Canada. Yes, it was a martial art then used in the military, police etc. I watched it move into the sport arena and totaly deteriorate and lose its effectiveness as a martial art. There are not many of us left but it is an experience to learn from.
Then came Karate and Kung-fu, Takwando, Aikido, all of which brought the spirit of Bushido initially.
Now we have kick boxing, mixed martial arts, cage fighting, tai bo. Dojos (martial arts studios) doing gumba (Jamican music and dancing or exercising to it).
We have the awsome BlackBelt being watered down to meaning very little due to the ability to purchase the ranks, people jumping higher like dance tickets.
It has to stop!!! We need to return the values and depth of traditional martial art study and way of life. Now.
